Pricing and profitability
A customer who buys only on price may be the most expensive customer for your company
The lowest price does not always mean the best deal. In photovoltaics, scope, service and post-installation risk matter too.
The job price is more than materials and installation
When you start a business, you want every job. The customer says a competitor is 800 euros cheaper, and your first reaction is: where can I cut more? You may win the job, but will you make money on it?
Your company also pays for the survey, travel, phone calls, offer preparation, administration, logistics and service. If you leave those out, you can have plenty of work and very little profit.
Cheaper is not always cheaper
A cheap component is not automatically bad, and an expensive one is not automatically good. When choosing technology and suppliers, also consider technical support, warranty handling, spare parts, documentation and whether the system can be serviced years from now.
A small difference in purchase price can be insignificant compared with one unnecessary service visit.
You do not need to win every job
If the customer wants only the lowest price and you want to build a company on quality, service and long-term reputation, they may simply not be your customer. That is fine.
It is better to have fewer well-structured jobs than many installations that do not create healthy profit.
